What Happens When You Post Your CV to a Job Board
Sometimes not a lot. But then again, it’s all about timing and relevancy.
When you post your CV to a job board, first and foremost, you are essentially telling recruiters that you are available for work. Each job board has it’s own internal and external system, so when a CV is posted, it may very well beam that CV to the top of the pile so paying recruiters can grab a peek at the latest candidate available on the market.
Other job boards might queue that CV in an editing system, to make sure it is right for the target market. For instance, if you are a new graduate seeking a CEO job, your uploaded CV would be scoffed at by recruiters who come across your CV in their CEO CV search. Therefor, in order to provide paying recruiters with the best CV Search experience, your CV will likely be seen and subsequently squashed or re-categorised by the Job Board’s admin team.
You see, CV’s are all about relevancy. As is any online job board system. It’s a two-way street.
Can you imagine one day signing up to a jobs by email service on CEO Jobs only to later receive a weekly digest of the latest Cleaning jobs in Scarborough. No offense to cleaners in Scarborough of course.
Uploading your CV is basically the same. Make sure you upload your CV onto the most relevant job boards and be sure to tick the most relevant questions where presented. This isn’t for the recruiters benefit, this is for yours.
It’s also good to know that when you do finally upload your CV to a relevant job board and tick all of the appropriate questions, suddenly your CV will be projected to the top of the CV pile – gaining you more and more recruiter eyeballs.
This is why you might feel overwhelmed sometimes when you upload your CV to a job board.
If you get it right, you will receive phone calls and emails from recruiters with relevant roles.
The main thing is to stay controlled, be specific about your career and only upload CVs to platforms that will generate a return for your efforts. Don’t scattergun, you’ll only end up wasting your time and the time of a sale-hungry recruiter.
