For more than 50 years, St Joseph’s Hospice has provided outstanding specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people across Merseyside and West Lancashire. Set within a beautiful 12-acre site in Thornton and home to one of the largest inpatient hospice units in the region, the hospice cares for around 200 patients each year and supports hundreds of family members through some of life’s most difficult moments. With ambitious plans to expand community engagement, develop innovative services and strengthen long-term sustainability, this is an exciting time to join the organisation.
Following the retirement of its long-serving Chief Executive, the Board is seeking an exceptional leader to guide St Joseph’s into its next chapter. Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic, operational and cultural leadership, ensuring the delivery of outstanding patient care while securing the hospice’s financial resilience and future growth. The role will lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, build influential partnerships across health, care and the voluntary sector, and act as a passionate ambassador for the hospice across the region.
We are looking for a values-driven and inspirational leader with significant senior leadership experience, strong strategic and stakeholder management skills, and a track record of delivering organisational success in complex environments. Experience in health, care, charity or hospice settings would be advantageous but is not essential. What matters most is your ability to lead with compassion, integrity and vision.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a highly respected organisation that combines clinical excellence with deep community impact and to shape the future of end-of-life care for the communities it serves.
