Role Overview
The Chief AI Officer (CAIO) is responsible for defining and executing the organisation’s artificial intelligence strategy to support business transformation, operational efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage. Reporting to executive leadership and working closely with technology, data, operations, and commercial teams, the CAIO will oversee AI adoption, governance, ethical frameworks, AI product development, and enterprise AI capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
AI Strategy & Vision
- Develop and implement the organisation’s enterprise AI strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve operational performance, customer experience, and revenue growth.
- Establish AI as a strategic capability across the organisation.
- Advise executive leadership and the Board on AI trends, risks, opportunities, and competitive positioning.
AI Innovation & Transformation
- Lead AI-driven innovation and digital transformation initiatives across business functions.
- Identify and prioritise AI use cases with measurable business impact.
- Support development and deployment of AI-powered products, services, and internal tools.
- Drive adoption of emerging AI technologies and methodologies.
AI Governance & Ethics
- Establish AI governance frameworks, policies, and best practices.
- Ensure responsible, ethical, transparent, and compliant use of AI technologies.
- Oversee AI risk management, bias mitigation, privacy, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, cybersecurity, and data teams on governance requirements.
Data & Technology Collaboration
- Work closely with data, engineering, product, and technology teams to enable scalable AI infrastructure and capabilities.
- Support development of enterprise data strategies and AI-ready data environments.
- Ensure AI systems are scalable, secure, and operationally effective.
- Evaluate and manage relationships with AI vendors, platforms, and technology partners.
AI Operations & Delivery
- Oversee implementation, monitoring, and optimisation of AI programmes and solutions.
- Establish KPIs and performance frameworks for AI initiatives.
- Ensure AI projects are delivered within agreed timelines, budgets, and business objectives.
- Promote operational excellence in AI development and deployment processes.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Build, lead, and develop high-performing AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics teams.

- Promote AI literacy and capability development across the organisation.
- Support recruitment, succession planning, and workforce transformation initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement

- Build relationships with academic institutions, research organisations, regulators, and technology partners.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Develop and manage AI-related budgets, investments, and resource allocation.

- Support strategic planning, operational efficiency, and growth objectives through AI capabilities.
- Contribute to innovation funding, partnerships, and investment decisions where applicable.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Proven experience as a Chief AI Officer, Head of AI, AI Director, Chief Data Officer, CTO, or senior AI leadership executive.
- Strong track record leading AI, machine learning, automation, or advanced analytics initiatives.
- Experience implementing enterprise AI strategies and large-scale transformation programmes.
- Demonstrated success translating AI capabilities into measurable business outcomes.
