Primary objective
Provide expert strategic financial advice and governance strategies to enable efficient and effective management in delivering strategic priorities across the Department of Tourism and Hospitality while ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and vision that supports innovation to a highly performing professional team, as well as participating in an influential role in whole of Government working groups and forums.
2. Develop and implement financial management activities and strategies to ensure the department operates efficiently and effectively within financial frameworks whilst adhering to legislation and relevant accounting standards.
3. Provide strategic direction to ensure the department has contemporary, comprehensive and accountable corporate governance structures and processes aligned to quality service delivery and continuous improvement.
4. Facilitate the review and maintenance of financial policy, controls, systems and processes, as well as deliver targeted training sessions to enhance capabilities and deliver improved outcomes across the department.
5. Promote the cohesion of financial and management reporting issues to better achieve corporate goals and objectives.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification/s in business administration, financial management, accounting and/or other related discipline combined with relevant senior executive experience, or equivalent combination of substantial relevant senior executive experience and education/training.
2. Significant experience in financial management and reporting, budgeting, corporate governance, strategy development, business planning and performance reporting in a large and complex organisation.
3. Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and legislation concerning accounting and financial management, procurement, and governance in the public sector or similar environment.
4. Highly developed interpersonal and communication competence, including operating in a sensitive political environment, capacity to communicate with influence, negotiate effectively, and facilitate informative and engaging presentations.
5. Demonstrated experience effectively managing a work unit, building team morale to achieve performance targets.
6. Experience planning and implementing projects, data collection and analysis, assessing project outcomes, and/or leading internal audits and capability or service reviews.
7. Demonstrated executive level experience in preparing and presenting high level briefings, reports and other forms of advice to executive management on financial and corporate governance issues.
