About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and strategic technology leader to join our organisation as Chief Data Officer (CDO).
Reporting to the CIO, this role will lead the design and delivery of CPA’s enterprise data strategy, architecture, and integration capability. You will play a critical role in enabling data-driven decision making, ensuring systems are effectively integrated, and establishing scalable, secure, and future-ready data platforms across the organisation.
Please note that this is a full-time role.
Responsibilities of the role (not limited to):
- Lead the development and execution of CPA’s enterprise data strategy and roadmap
- Design and implement scalable data architecture and integration frameworks
- Simplify and optimise data platforms and tools across the organisation
- Establish and maintain a robust data governance framework, including ownership, quality, and compliance
- Maintain a centralised data warehouse to support enterprise analytics and reporting
- Translate strategic priorities into a sequenced roadmap with clear ownership, milestones and outcomes
- Oversee reporting and visualisation platforms to enable actionable insights
- Lead the evolution from descriptive reporting (“what happened”) to diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and prioritise data and analytics initiatives
- Manage and develop a high-performing team of data and integration specialists
- Drive alignment between technology investments and organisational strategy
- Manage vendor relationships and ensure delivery of cost-effective, high-quality solutions
- Ensure data privacy, security, and compliance requirements are embedded in all solutions
- Provide expert advice to senior leadership and governance forums
About you:
- Demonstrated experience transitioning organisations from reporting-led models to intelligence-led, insight-driven environments
- 10 + years of experience in data architecture, data integration, and enterprise data platforms
- Proven leadership experience managing high-performing technical teams
- Strong experience designing and implementing data warehouses and analytics platforms
- Experience developing and delivering data strategies aligned to organisational goals
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive level
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, and third-party technology partners
- Solid understanding of data governance, data quality, and lifecycle management
- Expertise of cloud platforms and modern data integration tools (e.g. Microsoft Fabric)
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to optimise cost and value outcomes
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related discipline
Desirable skills:
- Experience in the not-for-profit, health, or disability sector
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as NDIS and Australian Privacy Principles
- Experience implementing reporting and visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI or similar)
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and/or Microsoft Data technologies
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
