Reporting directly to the State Chief Information Officer (CIO), you’ll serve as a core member of WaTech’s executive leadership team, driving innovation and shaping the future of public service through technology.In this high-impact role, you will set and execute the statewide technology vision, ensuring that Washington’s enterprise architecture, platforms, and systems are modern, integrated, and resident-focused.You’ll lead the Architecture and Innovation Division, which includes: Enterprise ArchitectureCloud Strategy and OperationsGeospatial Information Systems (GIS)Statewide Data Management and GovernanceWhat you’ll do: Champion innovation and emerging technologies that enhance service delivery to Washingtonians.Steer enterprise-level architecture and investment strategies, ensuring alignment with long-term state priorities.Inspire, direct, and scale cross-agency initiatives, uniting stakeholders under a common digital vision.Ensure the state’s technology ecosystem remains agile, secure, and future-ready.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Some of what to expect with this role: Define and drive the statewide technology vision, strategy, and roadmap, including the future-state technology architecture and data landscape for Washington.Develop and implement a comprehensive State Data Strategy to leverage data for improving outcomes for Washington residents, including initiatives like a resident-focused digital identity and hybrid multi-cloud strategy.Establish statewide policies, standards, and definitions for new and emerging technologies to guide adoption and governance.Identify and integrate emerging technologies into Washington’s technology ecosystem, setting criteria for innovation and legacy system modernization.Document current and future state architectures, develop performance measures, track progress, and report outcomes aligned with the statewide IT strategic plan.Lead and sponsor statewide initiatives that enable agency collaboration and improve public service delivery through connected government solutions.Provide strategic technical guidance as a key contributor to the Enterprise IT Governance Model, and as an advisor to the Technology and Business Management Councils.Represent WaTech nationally, offering leadership in architecture, cloud, data, and emerging technologies for state and local governments.Establish and support statewide communities of practice in key and emerging technology areas to foster knowledge-sharing and innovation.Collaborate with state HR to expand IT staff training programs focused on high-impact emerging technologies such as cloud and data.
