The SIA exists to protect the public through effective regulation of the private security industry. We are a high performing regulator, working collaboratively with industry, enforcement agencies, Government, and the devolved administrations to raise standards across the sector. We have three main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry; the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed quality criteria; and our compliance, inspection and enforcement work to uphold the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
We are looking for a new Chief Operating Officer at a time of change and increased public interest in us and our work. Subject to Parliamentary approval, we are likely to take on a high profile, additional regulatory remit by becoming the new Martyn’s Law regulator. This will mean significant change for the SIA: organisational growth and new functions and capabilities. However, it is imperative that we maintain the highest standards in our original regulatory role.
Your role as Chief Operating Officer will be to drive the efficient and effective operation of the SIA, particularly in the central supporting and enabling services which support front line operational delivery. Acting as deputy to the CEO in the day to day running of the organisation, you will strategically lead and improve high quality, customer focused corporate services which enable the SIA to deliver impactful outcomes for the public. They include human resources, financial planning, reporting and controls, compliant procurement, external communications, and directing corporate legislative strategy and policy.
With a relevant track record of leadership at a senior level (Board/director/C-Suite or equivalent senior executive) spanning multi-areas of corporate services, you will be an energetic, inspiring and developmental leader with a track record of elevating performance across multiple functions in support of organisational goals. With experience of working across complex stakeholder landscapes in the delivery of business improvement and operational excellence, you will be a coherent and credible communicator, able to build trust and cooperation at all levels through your strategic and transparent approach.
Commercially and financially astute with a handle on the detail, you will be a supportive colleague and excellent board operator with a contemporary skill set that will elevate the capability of this important directorate, extending to your ability to embed our culture of inclusion, excellence, and organisational continuous improvement.
This is both an exceptional career opportunity and an exciting time to be part of the SIA.
If you have the necessary skills, expertise, and experience, share our passion for making a real
difference to public safety and will embrace our values and culture, I look forward to receiving your application and welcoming you to the team.
