The Department of Probation is seeking a Chief of Staff for the Office of the Commissioner. Under the executive direction of the Commissioner, with the widest latitude for initiative, judgment and action, the Chief of Staff will coordinate and implement agency initiatives, projects and assist in the oversight and management of agency operations. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time experience in a governmental agency, business firm, civic or educational institution, directing or assisting in the direction of one or more major areas of administration (such as budget, personnel, purchasing) in a large organization or organizational segment, or conducting related complex management studies and analyses, or performing an appropriate combination of these duties, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative, or supervisory capacity; or
A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all
candidates must possess the 18 months experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative, or supervisory capacity as described in “1” above.
Preferred Skills
– Experience planning, formulating, and executing policies and programs – Thorough knowledge of the issues that face NY State and the City’s Criminal Justice system – Strong oral and written communication skills Mastery of advanced analytic and evaluative principles and concepts – Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
