The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial sustainability required to realise UoM’s strategic vision. A key member of the Executive team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the CFO leads a team of approximately 250 across vital functions, including accounting & budgeting, financial services, capital investment, procurement, sustainability, treasury and investments.
With a direct operating budget of $25 million and a project capital budget of over $200 million at any given time, the CFO will champion transformation, foster innovation, and build financial literacy across the University. This role involves proactive engagement with senior leadership and stakeholders, providing strategic financial guidance and ensuring the University can sustain its academic mission and achieve its strategic ambitions. With key upcoming projects, including a finance system replacement and major capital developments such as the new Fisherman’s Bend Campus and Australian Institute of Infectious Diseases facility, this is a multi-dimensional and dynamic role requiring a leader who can thrive in a fast-paced environment that prioritises students at its core.
About You
You are a strategic finance executive with extensive experience in complex, diverse organisations. Holding CA/CPA qualifications, you have a proven track record of driving sustainable growth, fostering innovation, and delivering strategic financial advice aligned with organisational purpose. You are known for your integrity, professionalism, high emotional intelligence, adaptability, and ability to influence across a broad range of stakeholders. You excel in collaborative environments, navigating complexity with ease, and are adept at leading transformational change.
Your strategic agility and commercial acumen are complemented by a deep commitment to good governance and the development of high-performing teams. You bring cross-functional leadership experience and a history of successful finance system implementation projects, making you well-suited to drive UoM’s financial strategy and support its mission to lead on the global stage.
