Based in Essex County NJ, The Arc provides comprehensive services, supports, resources, and advocacy to over 1500 individuals and families. Over 500 staff deliver daily on this mission with creativity, commitment, care, and compassion.

With an annual budget of $40m and over 40 community-based program and service locations, The Arc of Essex County’s portfolio includes adult residential and day programs; respite, recreation and summer day camp for both children and adults; and early intervention, preschool, and primary school education.

Job Summary:

The Arc of Essex County is seeking a visionary and mission-driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into its next chapter as the current CEO transitions to retirement.

Effective November 1, 2025, the next CEO of The Arc of Essex County will bring demonstrated leadership, deep commitment to The Arc’s mission and culture, a comprehensive understanding of the current NFP landscape ideally with significant knowledge and background in the IDD space, and a progressive vision that will inspire, enhance and continue to advance the goals and objectives of the organization.

Reporting to the President of the Board of Trustees, the CEO will be responsible for strategic leadership, operational excellence, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the continued success and growth of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership to advance the agency’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.
• Oversee the organization’s operations, programs, and services across 40+ locations.
• Manage a $40 million annual budget and ensure financial sustainability.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including families, staff, donors, government agencies, and the broader community.
• Lead, inspire, and support a team of 500+ employees to deliver high-quality services.
• Represent The Arc of Essex County in public forums, advocacy efforts, and partnerships.
• Collaborate with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement strategic plans.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and ethical standards.

Education / Work Experience / Skills:

• Minimum of 10 years of executive leadership experience in a not-for-profit or mission-driven organization of similar size and scope.
• Proven track record of strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership.
• Deep understanding of the IDD field and the broader nonprofit landscape.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and foster a collaborative culture.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $195,000.00 – $220,000.00 per year
