The Cotswolds National Landscape (CNL) is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), one of 34 in England. It is the largest of all National Landscapes and the third largest protected landscape in England (only the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks are larger), spanning 790 sq. miles, 15 local authority boundaries and 290 parishes. Designated in 1966, we receive 23 million visitor days, and have around 2.5 million people within a one hour drive and 22 million within two hours.
The Protected Landscapes family of National Landscapes, National Parks and National Trails are working together closer than ever before. Their combined potential to deliver on restoring nature, helping to achieve the nation’s net zero ambitions, and ensuring that these special places are for everyone to enjoy and benefit from has never been better understood than it is today.
It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining our organisation.
We are a small but influential organisation. We have a fantastic team of c. 25 committed people supported by the Cotswolds Voluntary Wardens – over 400 dedicated and skilled people giving their time freely to conserve and enhance this special place, as well as leading guided walks and hosting educational visits. We have well-established relationships with a wide range of partners, locally, regionally and nationally.
We are now looking for an established senior leader who can demonstrate strategic thinking, and who shares our passion for landscape, nature and thriving rural communities. As our new Chief Executive, you will be integral in developing and implementing a medium and long-term strategy, embedding best practice in everything we do, and unlocking the full potential of our team. You do not need to be a subject matter expert in conservation, but you will care about our people and our place, and understand how to be an effective advocate for the Cotswolds National Landscape.
