Thames Hospice has proudly served the community of East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire for more than 37 years. We exist to provide and support the best palliative and end-of-life care services, treating everyone with kindness, and compassion and giving dignity and comfort to those facing life-limiting conditions.

We are committed to delivering care that is agile and responsive so that we give patients and their families choices about the care they receive. We provide the highest quality clinical and therapeutic support within our outstanding CQC-rated hospice and in patients’ homes, supporting the physical, social, and psychological needs of our patients and their loved ones.

The new Chief Executive will play a vital role in shaping Thames Hospice of the future by providing vision and strategic direction in line with our core mission and values. Working closely with the Board of Trustees and the Executive Team, you will have responsibility for developing long-term sustainable strategies and overseeing effective systems of corporate and clinical governance.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

• Provide inspirational leadership to the Executive Team, empowering them to drive the organisation through effective collaboration to achieve strategic goals.
• Responsibility for the overall financial health of the organisation, including financial controls and strategies that ensure the sustainable future of the organisation.
• Lead and maintain effective relationships with Clinical Commissioning Groups, and other NHS stakeholders, statutory and voluntary bodies, other hospices, donors, supporters, and the local community to maximise funding opportunities.
• Ensure the organisation continues to provide the highest standard of patient and family-centred care, and that patient needs remain at the heart of the organisation’s work.

We are looking for an individual with a successful leadership track record, who is highly strategic with the ability to think long-term and horizon scan. You will demonstrate high levels of personal credibility and act as an ambassador for the organisation, cultivating positive relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders and with key funders, helping to increase the profile and impact of the Hospice.

You will display the empathy and emotional intelligence required to build and develop a high-performing and motivated team. Critically, you will be an individual who can operate in a challenging healthcare environment and demonstrate passion and commitment to Thames Hospice’s values and mission.
