The City of Gold Coast is Australia’s sixth-largest city, home to over 635,000 people. It is known for its vibrant lifestyle and diversity, beautiful natural environment, and a thriving arts and culture scene. The second largest local government in Australia (based on population), the Council of City of Gold Coast oversees the growth and development of services and infrastructure for its community.
With the recent establishment of Experience Gold Coast Pty Ltd (focused on tourism, events, study, and arts and culture attraction) and Invest Gold Coast Pty Ltd (promoting investment across manufacturing, technology, health, and marine, among other industries), the upcoming Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Council delivering an infrastructure program that positions the Gold Coast as a world class events city, the City of Gold Coast Council is now wanting to better position the city brand on the national and global stage.
As a result, a dedicated place branding entity, Brand Gold Coast Pty Ltd, has been established, to create and implement a brand strategy that will allow the Gold Coast to continue to grow and secure its competitive advantage as a leading Australian city. The entity will be responsible for the delivery of a five-year place brand strategy, aligned with Council Plan outcomes, as well as for achieving outcomes across three key focus areas: brand development, brand amplification, and brand facilitation, to be applied across the City Administration, Council’s controlled entities, key partners, and grant recipients.
Council is now seeking to appoint its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brand Gold Coast. The CEO will have executive presence, with gravitas to play a key representative role for Brand Gold Coast in the marketplace. The CEO will be an effective leader of a small team, with high emotional intelligence, and the capacity to engage and work with a diverse range of stakeholder groups.
Candidates will bring significant, senior-level marketing, brand management, or other relevant experience. They will have a background in leading research and community engagement initiatives, creating and executing strategy, leading promotion activities, and working in collaborative partnerships. They will also bring a commercial mindset in order to facilitate revenue opportunities for the entity.
