POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer brings critical leadership to SERJobs with responsibility for enhancing both the external face of the organization for purposes of communication and fundraising, and the strategic leadership of internal organizational processes and infrastructure that will allow SERJobs to continue to grow and fulfill its mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY ACCOUNTABILITES

STRATEGIC VISION AND LEADERSHIP:

• Collaborate with the Board to develop, refine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the budget, staff and priorities are aligned with SERJobs’ core mission.
• Lead the organization, setting the voice and tone from the top and vision for future growth and success.
• Facilitate and/or lead development of SERJobs’ Strategic Plan and oversee implementation and goal achievement.
• Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of finance, programming, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals.
• Develop and implement the Hispanic Agenda to further impact and address issues faced by the Hispanic community on a more visible and broader scope throughout the region and nationally.
• Increase focus on the branding of SERJobs and serving as a spokesperson to the community at large on behalf of the Community and other communities in need.
• Develop, maintain and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as exofficio of department committees, seek and build Board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for the regional expansion across the Greater Houston area (13 counties served).
• Develop strategic alliances and partnerships to increase SERJobs’ capacity to impact communities and expand service area, including potential mergers and acquisitions with strategic partners.
• Expand and develop SERJobs business model to include additional subsidiaries such as SERJobs Community Development Corporation (CDC).

MANAGEMENT AND OVERSIGHT:

• Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
• Actively engage and energize SERJobs volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations and funders.
• Lead, coach, develop and retain SERJobs’ highperforming senior management team.
• Ensure effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders and other constituents.
• Ensure that relevant financial data program information is presented regularly to the board of directors during scheduled Board meetings.
• Ensure that the services and programs of SERJobs are in compliance with all applicable Government funding requirements and laws.

FUNDRAISING DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS:

• Oversee and direct the organizing, planning, and implementing of public and private fundraising initiatives, ensuring that fundraising goals are achieved.
• Continue to diversify SERJobs funding base and further strengthen individual donors, corporate and foundation support.
• Cultivate high profile individual donors.
• Lead SERJobs’ Capital/Sustainability fundraising campaigns, with a focus on increasing unrestricted funding.
• Engage in public speaking events and foster recognition as a “workforce development expert” for disadvantaged communities thereby strengthening the “SERJobs Brand” as a leader in workforce development.
• Formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding and development strategies that will ensure consistency throughout the organization and enhance support and relationships building from major donors, foundations, government agencies and corporations.

STRENGTHENING INFRASTRUCTURE, FINANCIAL STABILITY AND OPERATIONS:

• Build organizational capacity and infrastructure for growth and high performance/quality.
• Oversee the financial status of the organization including developing long and shortrange financial plans, leading the setting and monitoring of the budget and ensuring sound financial controls are in place; set financial priorities accurately to ensure the organization is operating in a manner that supports the longterm financial stability, and the needs of the program and staff.
• Facilitate crossdepartmental collaboration and strengthen internal communications with staff throughout the organization; create and promote a positive multicultural work environment that supports consistency throughout the organization’s strategy, operational methods and data collection needs.
• Oversee the implementation of a client/donor management information system.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:

• Identify and develop innovative practices to further SERJobs’ mission.
• Develop new business lines.
• Ensure program performance achievement and impact.
• Establish benchmarks for measuring program performance and impact.

PUBLIC RELATIONS/ COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

• Maintain relationship between agency and community.
• Maintain appropriate liaison with groups such as national, state and local agencies.
• Develops opportunities to build the SERJobs brand to community, business, and governmental
• partners.
• Uses collaborative relationships, partnership and informal influence networks to assert SERJobs as an advocate for the Community.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master degree or equivalent experience; preferably an MBA
• Able to read, write and speak English and a strong preference for bilingual Spanish, or committed willingness to learn Spanish
• Proven fundraising experience
• Strong operational experience; ideally has worked in a senior management role for 7+ years
• Demonstrated experience in planning and analysis of financial operation, budgeting, and personnel activities.
• Excellent people skills, with an ability to determine priorities and establish processes for a dynamic leadership team
• Experience in recruiting, coordinating, training, and supervising staff
• Experience with communitybased or nonprofit organizations
